My practice explores experiences of body, femininity and sexuality through depictions of personal narratives. I paint myself, exposed, to portray my forced vulnerability to the male gaze, but maintain agency in denying a seductive view commonly seen in artistic representations of the female body.
Domestic chairs are a continuous subject, reflecting bodily interactions and their uselessness when deprived of it. Enhanced pinks, empty backgrounds and subtle slippage of recognisable worldly traits distorts the image of reality and interrupts the habitual viewing of my body.
I paint to unsettle the comfortable norm, opening a viewer's reading from an object-based documentation of body and domestic items into a feeling-based reflection of sensation and subjective truths.
