Waterhouse Natural Science Emerging Artist Prize 2021

As long time supporters of the SA Museum ‘Waterhouse’ Prize, HSAA are proud to be the Exhibition Prize Sponsor of the Emerging Artist Prize in this prestigious Art Prize of many years standing.

The 2021 Emerging Artist Prize, valued at $10,000 was won by artist Rebecca McEwan for her beautiful honey chandelier work.

Rebecca McEwan’s artwork explores the ancient wisdom of human connection with bees by exploring the visceral experience of the human/bee relationship. The chandelier represents a recognised symbol of wealth and luxury, Rebecca has gathered honey from beekeepers to fill tiny glass vessel drops on the chandelier. Each vessel containing the life-time’s work of 2-3 bees, asking us to question the value we place on honey and the existence of bees in our delicately balanced ecosystem.

Rebecca has exhibited with HSG over several years, and we look forward to viewing an exhibition of her encaustic wax 2D works scheduled at HSAA later in 2021.
